The TP1 arrived in 1958, drawn by Sigvard Bernadotte, a Swedish prince who became one of the country's best-known industrial designers. The look is deliberately plain, a matte Viking grey with clean lines and the spaced FACIT lettering across the back, and the build is heavier than the size suggests because there is a lot of steel inside. The touch is light and even, holds up over a long session, and collectors tend to talk about it the way they talk about an Olympia: a precise, secure, slightly understated machine that does what you ask without drama. Worth seeking out if you like the idea of a writer's portable that nobody else at the table will recognize.
