Join a monthly group of people who love the tactile side of the creative process.
A typewriter is the obvious tech for this, but we’re flexible. Bring the slowest machine you have, even a laptop you love or a pen works perfectly fine. We’ll socialize a bit and use the time to write. No special experience needed.
Once a month, on a Sunday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central, on Google Meet.
A typewriter is welcome and so is a notebook or a laptop.
The format
Two hours in three parts.
Fifteen minutes
Say hello
Who you are and what you’re working on, or that you don’t know yet.
Ninety minutes
Write
Your own project, or a prompt from the table if you’d like one. The room fills with the sound of keys and nobody checks a phone.
Fifteen minutes
Talk about how it went
What happened on the page and what opened up.
Space is limited. RSVP and share a bit about what you'd like to work on.
In Austin
I run ticketed typewriter evenings at wine bars, bookstores, and other places suited to the sound of a room full of typewriters: love letter nights, note-writing workshops, freewriting salons, and seasonal pop-ups around Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and the holidays. I also set up typewriters for free at farmers markets, breweries, and festivals around Austin.

Retreats
From 2010 through 2016, I led multi-day writing immersion retreats in Italy, Bali, Mexico, and the Caribbean with curated groups of 12-16. Morning yoga and breathwork, silent mornings, all day to write and recharge, evenings to share and critique. Rather than conferences or panels, Writing Immersion retreats offer time, flexible structure, and a room full of supportive people doing the same work.
I’m planning new retreats now. The format will be similar—small groups, beautiful destination, a holistic schedule built around writing and creative practice—with typewriters as part of the experience.

About the machines
Every typewriter I bring was built before 1970 and has been cleaned, tuned, and restored. They’re beautiful machines. The sound is half the experience.
